Description Terroni is a fruit note dropped onto smouldering wood, and Alessandro Gualtieri means the contrast to be uncomfortable. Released in 2017 under his Orto Parisi label, it opens on a bright, almost jammy raspberry that lasts about as long as it takes you to register it, then collapses into a smoky heart of birch, amber and benzoin over guaiac wood, vetiver, cedar, moss, patchouli, tonka and vanilla. Wearers reach for geological language (scorched earth, molten rock) and that is the right register. The sweetness never leaves, but it spends the whole wear underneath smoke. How It Differs From Cuoium Both are Gualtieri extraits, both are dark, and shoppers regularly cross-shop them, so it is worth being clear. Cuoium is raw leather: cade oil, hide, tannery smoke, with essentially no sweetness and an aggressively animalic edge. Terroni keeps a sweet raspberry-and-vanilla thread running through its smoke the whole way, which makes it the considerably more wearable of the two. If Cuoium sounds like more than you want but the smoky-woody direction appeals, Terroni is the entry point. Both project hard. Scent Character Sweet : 50% Woody : 41% Rich Ambers : 9% Translation: an unusual near-even split between sweetness and dry wood. The raspberry, tonka and vanilla on one side, guaiac, vetiver and cedar on the other, with amber and benzoin supplying the resinous smoke that fuses them. Fragrance Pyramid Top: Raspberry Heart: Birch, Amber, Benzoin Base: Guaiac Wood, Vetiver, Cedar, Moss, Musk, Patchouli, Tonka, Vanilla Performance Longevity: Excellent, commonly 8–12 hours on skin. Sillage: Large. This is noticed. Projection: Above average for hours before it settles. An honest note: as with everything Gualtieri makes, the warning is about dosage rather than disappointment. One spray is a full day. The smoke reads as genuinely burnt to some wearers rather than cosy, and that is a matter of taste, not quality. It is doing exactly what it intends to. Best Occasions & Season Built for Fall and Winter, and suited to Night Out, Date Night and Special Occasion wear. Cold air is where the smoke and resins read clearly; heat pushes the sweetness forward and can make it heavy. The projection makes it a poor choice for close quarters. Concentration & Provenance Concentration: Extrait de Parfum Perfumer: Alessandro Gualtieri House: Orto Parisi Year: 2017 Try Before You Commit The raspberry in the opening sets an expectation the rest of the fragrance deliberately breaks, and some people never forgive it. At extrait concentration and extrait longevity, that is an expensive thing to discover on a full bottle. A 1mL decant is $6.99, 5mL is $32.99, and 10mL is $64.99, all hand-poured from genuine retail bottles. 100% Authentic Every Venba sample is decanted from a factory-sealed bottle, never diluted, never mixed. The dark, resinous depth people read as oud comes from birch, amber and benzoin in the heart, with guaiac wood and patchouli underneath. Is the raspberry the main note? No. It is the opening and it is brief. Within the first fifteen minutes the smoky birch and resins take over, and the raspberry survives only as a sweet thread through the drydown. How strong is it really? Strong. Eight to twelve hours on skin with above-average projection is the norm. Start with one spray. What does Terroni mean? It is an Italian term for southerners, historically used pejoratively. Gualtieri names his fragrances provocatively, and the earthy, scorched character of this one is the joke.
